NSW Distribution System Plan

Opportunities Report

Ausgrid, Endeavour Energy and Essential Energy are proud to jointly present this landmark Distribution System Plan (DSP) Opportunities Report – a collaborative, Australian-first roadmap that demonstrates the critical role of distribution networks in supporting the energy transition of New South Wales.

The energy system is undergoing rapid transformation. Our three businesses, serving nearly 9 million customers and supporting 30% of Australia’s GDP, have come together to identify how unlocking opportunities within the distribution network can deliver significant value for all electricity users. This report outlines how coordinated action across our networks can de-risk the transition to renewable energy, improve customer participation, and reduce cost pressures for households and businesses.

The DSP Opportunities Report highlights that by better utilising available capacity in our distribution networks and optimising the use of consumer energy resources (CER), we can deliver billions of dollars in benefits, reduce our reliance on gas and interconnections from other states and provide breathing space for large scale renewable energy zones to come online. This will be key to ensure a reliable, affordable, and equitable energy future for NSW. Our unified approach provides a new, bottom-up perspective – complementing national planning and offering high-resolution insights into emerging demand patterns and infrastructure needs at the local level.

We recognise that the challenges ahead are complex and interconnected, but also that the opportunities are substantial. By being transparent about the potential our networks can provide, we invite and welcome constructive consultation on this report from all stakeholders on the best way forward. Our aim is to ensure that the benefits of the energy transition are shared equitably and that our planning remains responsive to the needs and insights of our customers, communities, and partners.

Together, we can deliver a faster, fairer, and more affordable energy transition for all.
